Five Suspects Freed on Bail in RAF Fairford Bomb Plot as UK Probes Alleged Iranian Ties

Although released on bail, Taylor confirmed that the individuals will remain under investigation as authorities continue to determine the full circumstances of the plot.

Taylor further noted that Counter Terrorism Policing is maintaining an open perspective regarding the possibility that the planned attack could have been driven by geopolitical motives, potentially orchestrated by individuals acting on behalf of a foreign state, whether knowingly or otherwise.

All five suspects who are being released are male UK nationals aged between 23 and 25. They were initially apprehended on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack and committing offenses under the Explosives Act.

Taylor’s announcement followed a denial from Iran’s embassy in London, which dismissed reports of connections to the Islamic Republic, labeling the allegations as “Iranophobia propaganda” in a post on X/Twitter.

The Telegraph reported on Sunday that British counterterrorism investigators were exploring the possibility that the arrested suspects had ties to Tehran, stemming from prior threats against the base by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The embassy condemned the report as “unfounded and malicious speculations,” alleging that the reports “serve no purpose other than to fuel Iranophobia propaganda in the UK.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to take appropriate legal measures, as necessary, to safeguard the rights and interests of the nation and its citizens in response to misleading and damaging media narratives,” the embassy concluded.

Vicki Evans, a UK Counter Terrorism Policing official, acknowledged earlier on Monday that the incident has sparked widespread speculation regarding potential geopolitical motivations for the plot. However, she urged the public to allow law enforcement the necessary space to conduct a thorough investigation.

“This is a hugely complex and large-scale operation involving local and national policing, the Defence Ministry, and local agencies, all of whom are collaborating to advance the investigation and support the community,” Evans added.
