Indian Squad Arrives in Guwahati for Pivotal Second ODI against West Indies
Team India has landed in Guwahati ahead of the second ODI versus West Indies, scheduled for September 30 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium. The selection travelled from Thiruvananthapuram after sealing an eight‑wicket opening victory on September 27.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the arrival on its official X account on Monday evening. A photo montage showed the entire roster departing from Guwahati airport ahead of the contest slated for Wednesday.
Barsapara Cricket Stadium set to host the series decider
The venue, formally known as Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium (also referred to as ACA Stadium), lies in Barsapara, Guwahati, Assam. Founded in 2012, the ground is operated by the Assam Cricket Association and accommodates around 46,000 spectators. It staged its inaugural men’s ODI on 21 October 2018 when India drew the match with the West Indies, meaning the subsequent fixture will revisit the same setting.
Successful for India upon September 30, a win would clinch a 2‑0 ledger in the ODI series before the concluding match at Maharlaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on 3 October.
The West Indies tour takes place from 27 September to 17 October 2026 and adds five T20Is thereafter. Securing a win in Guwahati is essential for India to retain the series advantage.
Public focus centers on Virat Kohli, who notched an unbeaten 139 in the first ODI at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Alongside captain Shubman Gill, he torpedoed the West Indies pace attack, chasing a 296 target comfortably.
The visitors had completed 295/7 first, batting first in that showcase. Justin Greaves added a maiden ODI hundred, John Campbell marked 62 and Amir Jangoo stayed unbeaten at 58. Despite this, India pushed past 300 with 41.4 overs remaining, finishing with 50 balls left.
India currently dominate the three‑game ODI tally at 1‑0. The Caribbean side, under captain Shai Hope, must capture a victory in Guwahati to stave off elimination.
