ANKARA — An Istanbul court has ordered the blocking of T24, Turkey’s renowned independent news website, as the government intensifies its suppression of dissenting voices.
T24, a liberal-leaning outlet renowned for its comprehensive coverage of national politics, foreign policy, economic trends, legal proceedings, crime, and cultural affairs, has been a key source of independent journalism in the country.
Legal action and allegations: The court imposed the website ban, referencing 118 articles published over the past year that officials allege promoted “LGBT propaganda,” according to state media reports.
T24’s Ankara bureau chief, Gokcer Tahincioglu, attributed the ruling to a months-long social media campaign that accused the outlet of disseminating content deemed inappropriate by authorities.
