UK Government Links Iran to RAF Fairford Incident, Says Prime Minister

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated that the UK government believes Iran was involved in the RAF Fairford incident, which led to the arrest and subsequent release on bail of five individuals.

“There are strong indications that Iran played a role in the events that unfolded over the weekend at RAF Fairford,” Burnham said in an interview with the BBC, though he did not elaborate on the specific evidence.

In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed the allegations, accusing the UK of “barking up the wrong tree.” He further criticized the release of the suspects, writing on social media: “I can confirm Iran’s belief that releasing supposed terrorists working for foreign states really says it all.”

Burnham defended the decision to grant bail, emphasizing that the individuals remain under stringent conditions. “When we say ‘released,’ it does not mean they are free in the conventional sense. They are subject to the strictest possible bail conditions,” he said.

His remarks follow criticism from US President Donald Trump, who expressed surprise at the bail decision during a press conference at the White House. “I would have said, ‘Don’t let them have bail.’ I’m surprised they released them. I wouldn’t have done that,” Trump commented.

Burnham reiterated that the authorities maintain “the strongest grip and closest control” over the situation, ensuring public safety remains uncompromised.

These developments follow statements from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who earlier suggested that foreign interference likely played a role in the RAF Fairford incident.
