Charlie Harmison has committed to a two-year professional contract with Durham, marking a significant step for the son of 2005 Ashes victor Steve Harmison.
The 18-year-old pacer emulates his father, who earned 63 Test caps for England during a career spanning 2002 to 2009.
Harmison becomes the fourth member of that historic Ashes-winning side to have a son sign professional terms with a County Championship club.
Archie Vaughan, son of former skipper Michael Vaughan, plays for Somerset, while all-rounder Andrew Flintoff’s sons, Rocky and Corey, are based at Lancashire and Kent respectively.
“I’m buzzing to have signed my first rookie deal,” Harmison told the club website.
“I’m looking forward to the hard work that lies ahead and hopefully contributing to helping the club to success in years to come.”
Steve Harmison was integral to the Durham squad that secured the County Championship title in 2008 and 2009 before retiring in 2013.
The Chester-le-Street side earned promotion back to the top flight this season following their Division Two triumph.
Teammates wicketkeeper-batter Robbie Bowman, 19, and batter Luke Symington, 18, have also agreed rookie deals alongside Harmison.
