As the open-source RISC-V chip architecture gains global traction, US-basedMIPS is engaging in collaboration with Chinese companies at an unprecedented level, according to a senior executive, underscoring cross-border cooperation amid the intensifying US-China tech rivalry.
MIPS, acquired by GlobalFoundries last year, is actively advancing RISC-V standardization efforts in partnership with China, CTO Yankin Tanurhan stated during a Shanghai media briefing in September.
These initiatives align with broader efforts by RISC-V International, which unites stakeholders from the US, Europe, China, and academia to establish standards across diverse technologies, including AI, microcontrollers, and data center servers, as highlighted by Tanurhan.
