In a thrilling finale at the Asian Games, India’s men’s cricket team clinched the gold medal by defeating Pakistan by 19 runs. The match was held at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Japan, on October 3, 2026, marking India’s successful defense of their title from the Hangzhou 2023 Games.
India batted first, posting a total of 211 for 6. Abhishek Sharma contributed 61 runs from 28 balls, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 51 from 22 deliveries. Shivam Dube added a crucial 27 runs off 15 balls, helping to set a challenging target.
Pakistan’s chase was led by Hasan Nawaz, who scored 96 runs from 51 balls, but the team was restricted to 192 for 6, falling short by 19 runs. The victory was sealed when Shivam Dube dismissed Nawaz on the final ball, showcasing his composure under pressure.
“Big achievement because India have won the gold. It’s not about Pakistan, we wanted to bring glory. It was only about bringing gold for the country. My runs were just a contribution, I don’t count my runs much. Everybody did well, Abhishek Sharma did something different, Jasprit Bumrah did well with the ball,” Dube said as quoted by NDTV Sports.
This gold medal victory came after the Indian women’s cricket team also won gold at the same Asian Games, creating a historic double for Indian cricket. The achievement represented a significant milestone for the sport on the continental stage, with both teams delivering outstanding performances.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah commended the Indian men’s T20 team for their performance, defeating Pakistan in the final at Karogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
“Nagoya and Japan have written a proud new chapter in cricket’s history. Congratulations to Team India on a campaign worthy of this moment, and heartfelt thanks to every competing nation, to the Olympic Council of Asia and organisers whose vision brought us here, and to the thousands of fans whose presence reminded us why cricket is so special anywhere in the world,” Shah wrote on X.
