A 15-year-old student lost a hand on Monday after picking up a police projectile during nationwide protests in France over classroom conditions, which have disrupted lessons at hundreds of schools since last week.
While some students returned to their classrooms, others continued demonstrations outside schools ahead of larger marches expected on Tuesday.
Authorities said the teenager was injured in the northern town of Lens. A police union source said he appeared to have picked up a sting-ball grenade fired by riot police, which exploded in his hand.
Since late September, students have blocked the entrances of hundreds of schools, citing teacher shortages, overcrowded timetables, deteriorating classrooms and buildings that are poorly equipped to handle rising temperatures, among other concerns.
