Polyphony Digital is set to deliver a significant overhaul for Gran Turismo 7 via the forthcoming Spec IV update. The content will not arrive in a single wave; instead, it is split across two separate releases. However, given that 2027 marks the 30th anniversary of the legendary racing series, the wait may prove worthwhile.
“Next year marks 30 years since the release of the very first Gran Turismo,” Polyphony Digital stated. “In preparation for this important milestone, we will release a large free Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7. It will consist of two parts, the first of which will be released in October, and the second in December 2026.”
The overhaul will add twelve new cars and two tracks, along with several quality-of-life improvements designed to streamline management of the game’s expanding library.
Spec IV Release Schedule
Players should mark their calendars: Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV Part 1 launches on 15 October 2026. Significantly, the update will be free for both PS4 and PS5 owners, a fact confirmed during the Gran Turismo World Series event in Singapore.
Part 2 is scheduled to coincide with the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Tokyo on December 5 and 6.
Six Vehicles in October
While the full roster of twelve cars remains partially under wraps, October will introduce six notable choices.
- 1986 Citroën 2CV Charleston
- 1994 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta
- 1987 Honda Civic Si Group A
- 2023 Honda Stepwgn Spada
- Mazda RX-Vision GT3 EVO
- Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo
The Ferrari entry is a new addition, having replaced a BMW M5 E60 that has been deferred to the December release. The Mazda RX-Vision GT3 EVO resembles the concept previously showcased, but the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo is arguably the most compelling reveal, serving as the first Chinese vehicle built specifically for a Gran Turismo title. Consequently, it acts as the flagship of the update, supported by a set of dedicated challenges.
New Circuit and Additional Tools
October will also reveal the Japanese Sportsland SUGO circuit. Already hosting Super GT and Super Formula events, the track features 13 corners, a total length of 3.586km (including a 704m main straight), and nearly 70m of elevation change.
Beyond the new track, the update simplifies organization within the 700-car garage. Vintage grouping will segregate cars that cannot be sold into a dedicated section, while Car Concierge permits ordering for Used Car and Legend Car categories. The Experience mode will highlight brand-specific challenges, such as those involving the Xiaomi, and Viewer introduces a new environment for inspecting and photographing vehicles.
Part 2 will bring back the fictional Autumn Ring, missing from the series for 13 years, offering both the traditional layout and an expanded configuration. Additional features include Family Mode, Shuffle Race with randomized car assignments, an Online Drift Trial, an evolved AI driver GT Sophy, and a new, harder difficulty tier known as Power Pack.
Further details on the December update will emerge soon, leaving plenty to anticipate for such a major milestone.
