Devin Haney has extended a revised offer to face Shakur Stevenson at 145 pounds in December, reducing his previously stated weight target by two pounds while maintaining his stance against a rehydration clause, as announced via social media.
“Let’s do this 145 no rehydration clause @ShakurStevenson .. let’s see who’s the real pussy! December.. 2026.
Somebody go wake Shakur up.. Tell him we got a deal,” Haney said on X.
The updated proposal marks a shift from Haney’s earlier position on October 4, when he proposed fighting at 147 pounds with no rehydration limit. While the adjusted offer reflects a concession on weight, the unrestricted rehydration remains unresolved, potentially leaving Stevenson concerned about facing a significantly larger opponent on fight night.
Although Haney would need to cut an additional two pounds to meet the new limit, the absence of a rehydration cap allows him to regain weight freely before the bout. This compromise reduces the contracted weight but does not fully address Stevenson’s concerns regarding size disparity.
From Haney’s perspective, the revised terms provide a concrete proposal for negotiation, moving beyond vague challenges. By setting a specific weight and timeline, he signals readiness to move forward, placing pressure on Stevenson to respond decisively.
The proposed December date introduces urgency, particularly if both fighters aim to compete within the current year. Securing the remaining contractual details will be essential to ensure adequate preparation time and event logistics.
While Haney’s willingness to drop to 145 pounds represents a notable adjustment, his insistence on eliminating the rehydration clause may still hinder agreement. The resolution ultimately hinges on whether Stevenson prioritizes the weight cap or seeks restrictions on post-weigh-in weight gain.
