Kristian Shevchenko, the 19-year-old son of Ballon d’Or winner and Ukraine football legend Andriy Shevchenko, has signed for seventh-tier club Sholing FC.
The young forward has joined the Boatmen on a permanent deal following youth spells at Chelsea, Tottenham, and Watford academies.
Having most recently been with Championship side Watford’s under-21 setup, Kristian was released in May and is now seeking to revitalize his career in non-league football.
Southampton-based Sholing FC boasts notable figures within their organization, including Premier League talents Levi Colwill and Matt Targett contributing to the club’s development.
Chelsea and England defender Colwill serves as associate director and community ambassador, while Hull City’s Targett has a younger brother, Brad, who plays for the Southern League Premier Division South club.
In a statement to BBC Radio Solent, Manager Paul Doswell explained that a revised transfer approach at the club drove the signing.
“The interest came from our coaching staff and their academy connections,” Doswell said. “We reached out to Kristian last week, and he’s eager to embrace our vision and fight for a place in the squad.”
“We’ve established a clear pathway moving forward – identifying the best young talent released by professional clubs and providing them the opportunity to play and grow in non-league football.”
The club’s strategy aims not only to offer these players valuable match experience but also to develop them with the long-term goal of helping them progress back into professional football.
His father, Andriy Shevchenko, enjoyed an illustrious career as a forward for AC Milan, Chelsea, and Dynamo Kyiv before retiring in 2012.
During his playing days, Andriy won the Champions League with Milan in 2003 and secured the prestigious Ballon d’Or award in 2004.
