Rams quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Sunday after positioning himself too close to the field of play and colliding with an official working the sideline. Head coach Sean McVay has made it clear that such errors cannot be tolerated.
Addressing the mistakes the Rams made during the first three quarters of the game, which required a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Eagles, McVay acknowledged that the coaching staff is not exempt from criticism regarding the team’s recent lapses in focus.
“Focus, concentration and situational awareness, we have to do a better job on that,” McVay said. “When it rains, it pours. Shoot, we’re getting penalties on our staff now too. Thank God we won that one. Rags would have never lived that one down. He felt bad about that one. So he took great accountability. We’ll get everybody the hell out of the way. And I need to get the hell out of the way as well.”
The incident was part of a costly day for Los Angeles, who were flagged eight times for 100 penalty yards. While the Rams secured the victory, McVay stressed that everyone, from players to coaches, must understand that such infractions cannot continue.
