Thousands of student protesters have gathered at Lille’s Place de la République in northern France.
Demonstrations continue across France on Tuesday against what protesters describe as chronic under-investment in high schools.
BBC Europe correspondent Nick Beake, reporting from within the Lille crowds, reports a strong police presence nearby but no signs of trouble so far.
Several protests across France over the past week have turned violent, with clashes between demonstrators and authorities.
