India vs West Indies 1st T20I saw another controversial incident during the second innings at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. Ishan Kishan appeared to be out after Matthew Forde made a diving effort near the boundary, but the umpire reviewed the decision and reversed it.
Matthew Forde’s catch attempt puts Ishan Kishan’s dismissal under review
The episode occurred on the fifth ball of the 11th over, when Kishan sliced Shamar Springer’s delivery toward deep cover. Forde reacted tardily, dived forward, and positioned his hands beneath the ball, prompting the West Indies contingent to celebrate what they thought was a clean catch.
Initially the catch seemed convincing, and the scoreboard briefly listed Kishan as caught by Forde. The umpire then requested a review, and replays revealed Forde landing with the ball appearing just above the ground.
Forde’s fingers were not clearly positioned to demonstrate full control of the ball during the catch. After multiple reviews, the umpire ultimately ruled Kishan not out, frustrating the West Indies players, who expressed visible disappointment, yet the umpire maintained his decision and Kishan stayed at the crease.
Here’s the video:
Out or not out?
Darren Sammy was unhappy, but Abhishek Nayar & Yuzvendra Chahal agreed it was as tight as it gets! With inconclusive angles and Aakash Chopra noting the grass contact, the 3rd Umpire gave Ishan Kishan the benefit of doubt.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer hold key to India’s chase
India came under pressure in the chase after early wickets fell to Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. Additionally, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was omitted from the lineup, placing extra responsibility on the middle order on the demanding Lucknow surface. With Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer at the crease after the contentious review, their partnership grew vital for India’s pursuit.
Iyer had already scored a century and was aiming to steer the chase alongside Kishan. West Indies urgently required a breakthrough, and Forde’s diving effort seemed poised to deliver it, but the review overturned the decision. With India in a commanding position, the West Indies now need a moment of brilliance to alter the contest’s trajectory.
