Cody Rhodes believes that today’s wrestlers enjoy a far stronger financial environment than previous generations.
During a recent appearance on the Flagrant podcast, Rhodes discussed the current wrestling economy and WWE’s compensation model. He noted that heightened competition and expanded opportunities have created a lucrative landscape for talent.
The wrestling economy has changed, Rhodes observed, because there are now more platforms where wrestlers can work. “The money in wrestling and sports entertainment is very good,” he said.
Rhodes, who recently signed a new WWE contract, said the guaranteed earnings available to contemporary talent would likely astonish wrestlers from his father Dusty Rhodes’ era.
“If you were my dad or any of those wrestlers we talked about, you’d be shocked,” he added. “When I mentioned specific figures, my mom didn’t understand then, but contracts are now guaranteed.”
The increased earnings also bring higher expectations for Rhodes.
“That’s a huge responsibility for me,” he remarked.
When asked about contract terms for newcomers, Rhodes declined to disclose exact numbers but indicated that even developmental talent can earn substantial six‑figure salaries.
“I don’t know what our developmental guys make, but everything is six figures,” he said. “I’ll let Nick Khan speak on that—Nick says some guys will do well, some will do really well, and a few will reach the ‘next level.’”
Rhodes added that top‑level wrestling compensation now rivals salaries in major professional sports.
“That next‑level pay is now comparable with sports,” he said. “I’m proud to be a wrestler because you can travel the world, be recognized, and now earn income on par with baseball and NBA contracts.”
Rhodes noted that historically wrestlers had the exposure of major sports stars but lacked comparable pay.
“You had the penetration but not the income,” he explained. “Modern TKO and Nick have changed that.”
During the interview, Cody Rhodes also announced that he has re‑signed with WWE.
