Conservative commentator Katie Zacharia has been selected for the position of White House press secretary, a White House official confirmed to the BBC.
Zacharia currently serves as a communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group. If confirmed, she would become the president’s sixth chief spokesperson across his two administrations. She previously held a brief position as a spokesperson at the Department of Homeland Security.
Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who departed the White House in August, has reportedly joined Fox News.
The BBC has reached out to Zacharia for comment.
Zacharia, a frequent guest on conservative media programs, has been working for Trump’s media company and his Truth Social platform since June, according to her LinkedIn profile.
She served at the Department of Homeland Security briefly from February to March of this year.
The role of press secretary extends well beyond managing briefings at the podium. It involves navigating complex relationships with the media, coordinating across various White House departments, and offering media strategy counsel directly to the president. The press secretary also leads an office that handles a substantial volume of daily inquiries and requests.
