After wrapping production, Evans returned to New York to portray Dr. Frank‑N‑Furter in the Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show.
“I performed the show for seven months and was nearing the end of its run — it was an incredible experience,” he said.
“It was simply the most wonderful, inclusive, joyous two hours of my day. The audience loved it.”
Evans noted that Tim Curry had been a constant presence throughout his journey, with fans at the stage door and messages comparing him to Curry, expressing how proud Curry would have been of his performance.
Curry, who died in August at age 80, originated the role on stage before the 1975 film version, which remains a cult favourite.
Evans added, “I felt compelled to write him a letter, even knowing he might never read it.
I wanted to thank him because I truly believe that without Tim’s portrayal of Frank‑N‑Furter, the film might not have endured.
He kept the show alive, and its messages remain as relevant and powerful today as they were 53 years ago.”
He received a reply from Curry’s team three weeks before his final performance, saying they were “very appreciative” of the letter and thanked him for sending it.
“Sadly, he passed away the day after I finished,” Evans said.
