Five Syrians, including two women, and one Lebanese national were wounded in the latest Israeli strike, officials say.
An Israeli drone attack wounded six individuals in Lebanon’s Hermel district near the Syrian border, the Lebanese health ministry said.
Among those injured were five Syrian nationals, two of whom were women, and one Lebanese citizen, according to the ministry.
Lebanon’s state‑run National News Agency (NNA) reported that the drone targeted a vehicle.
The area had largely been free of such strikes since Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in June.
Israel’s military said it targeted a Syrian militant who “operated under the direction of the Iranian regime,” alleging that the man had planned and carried out attacks against Israeli forces in southern Syria.
Since the ouster of former Syrian President Bashar al‑Assad in December 2024, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes against Syria. Israeli forces have entered the UN‑patrolled buffer zone in the Golan Heights and carried out repeated incursions deeper into Syrian territory, at times detaining residents.
Israel has also continued military operations in Lebanon following the June ceasefire with Hezbollah.
It has pledged to maintain troops in designated security zones along its borders in both Syria and Lebanon.
In a speech to the United Nations General Assembly last month, Syrian President Ahmed al‑Sharaa declared, “We reject Israeli attempts to impose a fait accompli. We reject their aggressions, which undermine peace and security.”
He stated that Israel had carried out “500 air strikes, more than 1,200 incursions and 300 detentions” in Syria.
Al‑Sharaa also called for Israel’s withdrawal from Syrian territory and urged the international community to uphold the 1974 agreement establishing a UN‑supervised separation zone between Israeli and Syrian forces.
