South Korea’s ambassador to Ukraine returned home on Saturday, Seoul’s foreign ministry announced, as a diplomatic row deepened over the transfer of North Korean prisoners of war to Kyiv.
The recall came days after South Korea protested following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s disclosure of the prisoner transfer, which Seoul argued endangered the families of those sent to North Korea.
“We inform you that Park Ki-chang, Ambassador to Ukraine, returned home this morning,” the South Korean foreign ministry stated in an official communication to AFP.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has formally demanded an official apology from Kyiv over the revelation of the prisoner swap.
