Russian aerial bombardments killed at least 15 people in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, including three children, with 16 others injured in residential areas, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service on Saturday.
The escalating airstrikes come as United States President Donald Trump announced a deal to purchase Russian diesel, marking a significant shift from years of Western sanctions against Moscow. Ukrainian officials have expressed concern that the agreement could provide financial support for Russia’s ongoing military operations.
The violence underscores the intensifying long-range aerial warfare between Russia and Ukraine, as both sides remain largely deadlocked along the front lines more than four and a half years after Moscow’s full-scale invasion. Over the past four days alone, Russian attacks have claimed more than 60 lives across Ukraine.
Trump’s decision to pursue Russian energy imports represents a dramatic departure from previous U.S. policy, which had maintained strict economic pressure on Russia throughout the conflict. The move appears aimed at addressing domestic fuel price concerns ahead of upcoming U.S. midterm elections.
