Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced on Saturday that presidential and legislative elections will now be held on September 11, 2027, overturning a previous decree that had set the legislative vote for November 28, 2026, according to Anadolu.
The decree urges Palestinians, including residents of the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, to participate in concurrent elections for the presidency of the State of Palestine and seats in the Palestinian Legislative Council, as reported by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
The move comes after a decision by the PLO’s Executive Committee, following consultations with various Palestinian factions and political groups, which yielded a national agreement that Israeli actions have created barriers to holding elections on the original date and that appropriate political, security, and on‑the‑ground conditions must be secured to ensure free, fair, and inclusive voting.
