On Saturday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that the legislative elections slated for next month have been postponed to September 11, 2027, and scheduled a presidential election for the same day, citing Israeli actions and the prevailing security conditions in the Palestinian territories as the reasons for the delay.
Abbas’s decree highlighted obstacles stemming from Israeli measures and emphasized the necessity of creating appropriate political, security, and on-the-ground conditions for elections that are free, fair, and inclusive, according to a report by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The decree urged Palestinians residing in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza to participate in the vote.
