Hurricane Isaias caused four fatalities and widespread power outages across the southern United States, battering the region with strong winds and heavy rainfall.
State officials confirmed two deaths each in Alabama and Florida, where individuals were killed after trees collapsed onto homes.
A PowerOutage tracker reported that at least 600,000 customers remained without electricity in multiple states as of Saturday afternoon.
The storm made landfall in Florida late Friday, packing maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (168 km/h) before being reclassified as a post‑tropical cyclone.
Isaias knocked down trees and tore roofs from structures. Alabama, Florida, and Georgia all declared states of emergency ahead of the storm, and Florida and Alabama issued mandatory evacuations for thousands of residents.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Simon intensified to Category 4 as it approaches Mexico’s Pacific coastline and is forecast to make landfall overnight.
Additionally, Tropical Storm Rachel is moving toward the Pacific and is anticipated to strike southern California later on Saturday.
