The Minnesota Vikings have elevated wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from their practice squad for Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints, according to a source familiar with the situation.
However, the organization has not yet determined whether Beckham will be active and dressed in uniform. Head coach Kevin O’Connell stated on Friday that his availability would likely depend on the health status of receivers Justin Jefferson (ankle) and Jordan Addison, a condition a source reiterated on Saturday remains in effect. The Vikings also elevated receiver Jeshaun Jones from their practice squad during the same transaction.
Neither Jefferson nor Addison participated fully in practice last week and were both listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.
Minnesota initially signed Beckham on Wednesday after Jefferson and Addison were already dealing with health issues, while third receiver Jauan Jennings had recorded just two receptions on four targets in his first season with the club.
Speaking to reporters in Minnesota on Wednesday, O’Connell referenced Beckham’s experience suit up in a game merely three days after signing with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021 season, noting that O’Connell served as the Rams’ offensive coordinator at the time.
“I’ve seen him do it before,” O’Connell said. “The good thing about our system is we’ve got some mechanisms that either he can quickly learn, and know those are absolutes if we need to go that route in the game, if he were to be elevated.”
The Vikings enter Sunday’s game with a 4-0 record, although the offense has performed among the league’s worst units this season. Jefferson suffered a sprained left ankle in Week 3, missed Week 4, and his availability for the contest in New Orleans remains unresolved.
Beckham, 33, appeared in three games with the Giants this season, playing 19 snaps without recording a catch. He originally spent the first five seasons of his career with the franchise following his selection as the No. 12 overall pick in 2014. He is attempting to resuscitate his career after sitting out of the NFL since the 2024 season, when he recorded nine catches for 54 yards with the Dolphins.
Beckham has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. He holds career statistics of 575 catches, 7,987 receiving yards, and 59 touchdowns.
