MILWAUKEE — Brice Turang doesn’t always extend his days at the ballpark with extra hitting sessions. Some years, he admitted, he skips them entirely. However, two nights before the National League Championship Series began, the struggling Brewers second baseman knew he had to put in the extra work.
Turang enjoyed a breakout regular season, establishing himself as one of the most valuable position players in baseball. He belted 21 home runs and led the Brewers in hits, runs scored, and runs batted in. Yet, that stellar production failed to carry over into the National League Division Series, where he managed just a 2-for-16 performance against the Padres.
Determined to break out of his slump, Turang spent Friday night grinding in the cages. He hit repeatedly alongside Brewers hitting coach Daniel Vogelbach and player performance consultant Jace Peterson, searching for the perfect hand feel and a more consistent path to the ball.
\”I’ve always loved trying to figure it out,\” Turang reflected. \”I kind of grew up hitting at all hours of the night. Doing this now sometimes brings me back to being a kid a little bit.\”
