Selma Blair, a US actress, was arrested and taken to a hospital after allegedly assaulting two flight attendants during a flight.
Airport officials responded to a report on Sunday concerning a physically abusive passenger on a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York. Two flight attendants sustained injuries, and one was transported to a hospital, according to the New York Port Authority.
The 54‑year‑old actress was taken into custody and transported to a hospital. The FBI has opened an investigation.
Blair’s publicist told the BBC that she experienced a medical emergency that precipitated the alleged behavior.
“Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” her publicist stated.
The incident took place around 23:00 local time aboard Delta Airlines Flight 938.
Flight crew members are reported to have restrained Blair during the flight. Air traffic control audio obtained by CBS News indicates the pilot requested medical personnel, citing a bloody nose and bite marks.
The FBI, which handles investigations of assaults on aircraft, confirmed it is probing a potential assault on the flight but declined to provide further details.
It remains uncertain whether Blair will face charges. The BBC has reached out to New York prosecutors for comment.
A Delta Airlines spokesperson said law enforcement responded as the aircraft arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, and that the incident caused no disruption to flight operations.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” Delta Airlines said in a statement to the BBC.
