A Bitcoin whale that accumulated its holdings just before the March 2020 COVID crash and held through the turmoil has now moved roughly $377.6 million worth of BTC.
Four of the recipient addresses each received exactly 1,000 BTC, while the fifth received approximately 582 BTC. At the time of publication, none of these addresses have subsequently moved the newly received funds.
The funds initially entered the wallet on March 3, 2020, originating from address 17VX1BEjYVyBMi2vw6nXDrpwMvCSweHZot. Nine days later, COVID‑19 triggered a market panic, driving Bitcoin’s price down more than 40 % to below $4,000—a level the market has not reclaimed.
At acquisition, the 4,582 BTC were valued at roughly $40.8 million. By the time of the recent transfer, the same holdings had appreciated to an estimated value nine times higher.
The wallet remained dormant for over four years after the initial deposit. Its first outbound transaction occurred in August 2024, consisting of a minimal 0.009 BTC payment to bc1qmpjs55x326wvnvtwvkwfqqzzlyljk7ffmdw32g, with the remaining balance returned to the same address.
