A Houthi official has warned the United States that military escalation would trigger a painful response, as Saudi Arabia reportedly seeks American assistance to counter sustained Houthi attacks.
Yemen’s civil war, pitting a Saudi-led coalition backing the government against Iran-supported Houthis, reignited in July, unfolding against a broader regional crisis that has destabilized energy markets and plunged the Middle East into turmoil.
Since the escalation, Houthis have targeted Saudi oil facilities, tankers, and transport hubs, launching lethal strikes on Riyadh’s airport and disrupting operations at the globe’s top oil exporter.
Explosions rang out over the capital on Monday night, with the Saudi-led coalition reporting interception of a Houthi missile, while the rebels claimed another attack on the airport.
