Apple has officially entered the smart display market with its new HomeView device. Featuring a distinctive seven-inch “squircle” design resembling a large Apple Watch mounted on a speaker base, the $299 HomeView is positioned as the centerpiece of Apple’s push into the smart home. In addition to controlling a wide range of smart home devices, the display can show recipes, music controls, FaceTime calls, and various widgets.
The HomeView launches on Friday, November 13th, making it a timely option for holiday gifting. It is available for preorder in multiple colors, with buyers able to choose between a version with a speaker base—which includes a custom down-firing woofer and two passive radiators—and a wall-mounted option that omits the base. Both versions are priced at the same $299 point.
Like the newly announced Apple TV 4K and HomePod Mini 2, the HomeView heavily leverages Siri AI. When connected to an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, it supports natural-language voice interactions. While its Thread and Matter connectivity allow it to serve as a smart home hub, its AI capabilities also enable it to surface relevant information from messages, emails, and other apps.
