Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford expresses his pleasure at having rookie quarterback Ty Simpson join the team.
Addressing speculation that he might be displeased with the team’s first‑round selection of a quarterback, Stafford told Pat McAfee that he is eager to collaborate with Simpson.
“I’m with him in the meeting room and on the practice field, doing everything I can to share my knowledge. I have long admired Ty’s performance at Alabama,” Stafford explained.
Stafford noted that while he wasn’t thrilled to see Simpson’s Alabama squad defeat his former college, Georgia, last season, he otherwise was impressed by Simpson’s college play.
He sent Simpson a text after the draft, saying, “I really enjoyed watching you play — just that you were in the wrong jersey.” I have enjoyed watching him; he is a talented young player.
Stafford recalled that senior players supported him when he entered the league as a first‑round rookie, and he intends to extend the same assistance to Simpson.
“I will do everything possible to prepare the team for success and to win, while also sharing the experience I’ve accumulated over my career, because I wouldn’t be in my current position after a strong season without the guidance I received. He is a quick learner, eager to improve.”
