Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is brushing aside concerns about his declining statistical output this season. Through five games, his completion percentage has dropped from 64.3% to 59.9%, yards per attempt from 6.4 to 5.8, and passer rating from 87.8 to 80.8. Denver’s offense has fallen from 10th in the league last year to 30th overall.
Nix, however, rejects the premise that his play has deteriorated.
“Playing good and playing bad, it’s a narrative, and I think it’s honestly kind of something we make up,” Nix said following Tuesday’s practice, per Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette. “I don’t think necessarily I’m playing any different than what I’m normally playing.”
Against the Chargers on Sunday, Nix completed 16 of 27 passes for 123 yards with one touchdown in a 23-17 victory. Only one of his completions traveled more than 16 yards downfield.
Instead, the second-year signal-caller emphasizes the bottom line: Denver sits at 3-2.
“We’re sitting here at 3-2 and having a good start to our season,” Nix said. “There’s things we want to clean up. There’s things we want to fix. We’re leaving some things out there on the field but we’re finding ways to win like we did last year [during a 14-3 season]. I feel strongly that we’re going to continue to do that.”
