Witnesses reported that Mogan threw chewing gum at Semenyo, striking the right side of his shorts during the incident at Anfield.
Neil Sherratt, a Liverpool supporter seated next to Mogan at matches, provided a written statement to the court describing how he observed Mogan approach the pitch from the disabled section of the Main Stand.
Sherratt stated that he heard Mogan shout something resembling “hurry up” and watched as Semenyo turned toward him in response.
The witness recalled that the footballer appeared shocked and believed Semenyo responded with what sounded like “you what” before the situation escalated.
Nicholas Collins, another Liverpool fan, testified that Mogan became “very cocky and brazen” following the confrontation and allegedly threatened to assault police officers who attempted to approach him.
During police questioning the following day, Mogan admitted to shouting at Semenyo to hurry up but disputed the nature of his actions, claiming the footballer had called him “a cripple,” which he found upsetting.
Mogan maintained that he had thrown the chewing gum on the floor rather than directly at the player, contradicting witness accounts of the incident.
Jones, representing the prosecution, argued to the court that Mogan’s version of events during his police interview was deliberately false.
Semenyo is scheduled to provide testimony via videolink as part of the ongoing proceedings.
Mogan, identified in court documents as residing at Templehill Close in Dovecot, continues to deny charges of racially aggravated behaviour.
The trial remains ongoing.
