Kontoor Brands Inc. is poised for renewed momentum, buoyed by a resurgent appetite for denim and strategic moves that analysts at Jefferies say position the company for sustainable growth. The financial services firm upgraded Kontoor—from neutral to buy—highlighting the strength of its flagship Wrangler brand and recent acquisitions such as Helly Hansen, which continues to expand in North America.
“Kontoor presents a compelling multi-year acceleration story within apparel, supported by company-specific catalysts,” said Jefferies analyst Blake Anderson in a research note. “While execution is still in the early stages, we believe the setup offers an attractive risk-reward proposition.”
Shares of Kontoor have declined approximately 16% year-over-year, weighed down by investor concerns about consumer spending patterns among specialty retailers. Trading at roughly 10 times forward earnings, the stock reflects a valuation that Jefferies considers unreasonably low, given the company’s evolving portfolio and growth levers across both denim and outdoor sectors.
The acquisition of Helly Hansen in May 2025 added a key growth pillar to Kontoor’s business mix. Anderson emphasized that the brand’s ongoing expansion in the U.S. market, along with its strong foothold in workwear—a category known for steady demand—is expected to drive incremental revenue and diversify Kontoor’s earnings base.
According to Jefferies analyst Corey Tarlowe, the broader apparel industry is witnessing a notable uptick in denim demand—an encouraging sign for Kontoor. “After trailing most apparel categories for nearly two decades, denim growth has recently surged ahead, outpacing overall apparel growth rates,” Tarlowe stated. “Today’s denim market appears less prone to fleeting trends than in previous cycles, with reduced pressure from athleisure segments providing a healthier backdrop for performance.”
Jefferies’ upbeat stance aligns with the general sentiment on Wall Street. Based on LSEG data, eight of the ten analysts covering Kontoor Brands maintain either a buy or strong buy recommendation on the stock.
