Delano D’Souza welcomes Peter Zalmayev, founder and director of the Eurasia Democracy Initiative, live from Kyiv. After President Zelensky declared that Ukraine is finished with Trump’s self‑declared energy ceasefire and ordered renewed strikes on Russian oil refineries, Zalmayev warned that discussing an energy ceasefire assumes both sides can cooperate—a condition not met. He questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s unilateral proclamation, which was made without consensus from Moscow or Kyiv, while Russian forces continue to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. At the same time, he advised Zelensky to exercise tactical restraint to safeguard essential U.S. backing. Zalmayev also reviewed the impact of Western sanctions, the status of frozen Russian assets, and Washington’s drive toward economic normalization with Moscow that proceeds without substantive concessions from Russia.
