Bitcoin surged 1.3% to nearly $82,000 during Friday morning Asian trading after buyers intervened to support the cryptocurrency following a brief dip below $80,000, coinciding with a rebound in Asian equity markets driven by chip-related stocks.
ZEC led the gains among major cryptocurrencies, soaring 8% to approximately $1,190. Other top tokens including Solana (SOL), Ether (ETH), XRP, and TRON (TRX) each rose about 1%, while BNB remained largely flat.
The cryptocurrency’s retreat to roughly $79,800 on Thursday marked a breach of a critical $80,400 support level that had previously held twice in the preceding week. Buyers quickly re-entered the market, pushing Bitcoin back to around $82,500 within two hours and maintaining its position above $81,000 through the session.
Equity markets mirrored the recovery, with MSCI’s Asia Pacific index climbing 1.3% as roughly three advancing stocks outpaced decliners. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both rose over 2%, while South Korea’s broad Kospi index jumped nearly 3% after closing at its lowest level since April on Wednesday.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) stood as an exception, edging lower despite an optimistic business outlook as concerns persisted regarding upcoming AI infrastructure investments weighing on the sector.
