[IDF Secures Military Zone Along Gaza Border Following Nahale Settlement’s Overnight Expansion Efforts]
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) enforced a road blockade in the vicinity of Kibbutz Nahal Oz and Kibbutz Kfar Aza early Friday following the arrival of Nahala settlement movement activists overnight at Simhoni Forest—a location situated between established Gaza border communities and the international boundary fence—who sought to establish a community named “Pioneers of Gaza.”
Israeli police personnel conducted dispersal operations to manage the crowd, and subsequently, the IDF designated the stretch between the border fence and the local Israeli enclaves as a closed military zone to prevent further return movements.
The Nahala movement asserts that more than 700 individuals participated in this effort, comprising families with children, rabbis, members of the Knesset (MKs), bereaved families, and wounded defense force personnel who viewed the project as the creation of a new community.
This declaration of a restricted military zone was intended to impede the settlers’ ability to regain access to the area where their construction activities occurred.
Simultaneously, the IDF monitored possible scenarios where remaining activists might attempt to circumvent the roadblocks, approach the border fence, and potentially infiltrate the Gaza Strip.
Describing the action as a preparatory measure toward reinstating Israeli settlement activity within the Strip, the movement highlighted its strategic objectives.
Despite physically reaching the space bordering the Israeli communities rather than crossing directly into Gaza proper, the stated end goal remains establishing permanent Israeli neighborhoods within the district.
The group’s demands extended beyond the immediate relocation of the settlement site to the northern perimeter of Gaza. In a formal statement, they instructed the incoming administration to incorporate plans for new Israeli communities into national policy, repeal the Disengagement Law, and promote emigration in coalition frameworks.
According to the movement, demonstrating de facto control over territory and establishing such settlements would serve as a psychological signal to the opposing side that the conflict had been decisively resolved.
