With 2026 drawing to a close, the franchise is just months away from the arrival of Generation 10. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves were first announced earlier this year as part of the ongoing 30th-anniversary celebrations, but with the games not expected to launch until 2027, official details remain limited.
The titles will transport players to a tropical archipelago inspired by Southeast Asia, featuring multiple islands and accessible underwater areas. The newly revealed starters are Browt (Grass-type), Pombon (Fire-type), and Gecqua (Water-type). Leaks also claim that more than 300 brand-new Pokémon will be added to the Pokédex, suggesting a substantial expansion for the series. Following criticism that recent entries lacked ambition, the reported scale of these additions indicates Game Freak may be taking fan feedback seriously.
Beyond that, little else is confirmed beyond ongoing leaks, which have hinted at a potential new Eeveelution and a Psyduck evolution.
On r/PokemonWindWaves, fans have been discussing what the next “pseudo”—a community term for a non-legendary Pokémon with a three-stage evolution line—might be. “What do you think WiWa’s Pseudo could be?” one user asked. “Honestly, there’s a good chance it might be a dragon again. But to be honest, if it’s not a dragon, what typing would y’all see it as? It’d be cool if it was Fire/Steel + Earth eater.”
With nearly 300 comments, the community is split on the next three-stage evolution line. One fan wrote, “I’d love it if it weren’t a Dragon-type for a change. But I know I’m asking for the impossible.” Another added, “Make it a mammal, cowards. A dragon every gen is stale. Imagine if Slaking or Ursaluna were a couple of the pseudos. Metagross is the only formula break they’ve ever had, and that was over 20 years ago.”
Custom image by Katarina CimbaljevicSuggestions have ranged from Bug/Dragon to Water/Dragon and everything in between, suggesting many fans are tired of Pokémon’s reliance on dragon-types. However, with no evolutions officially confirmed for Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves yet, we will have to wait and see when the game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 sometime next year.
