Mike Tyson is throwing his support behind Tyson Fury ahead of the highly anticipated Battle of Britain against Anthony Joshua, but the boxing legend has a clear vision for what comes next for the British heavyweight contender.
The pair will finally collide at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11, with both fighters eyeing a shot at becoming a three-time world champion.
The victor will claim the WBA ‘super’ title, though it’s worth noting that Murat Gassiev currently holds the organization’s ‘regular’ championship and considers himself a world titlist.
Fury enters the bout as the favorite, with many analysts giving him the edge based on his superior skill set or the perception that he’s aged more gracefully than his rival.
This assessment seems fair when examining recent performances – Fury earned decision and stoppage victories over Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach, never appearing vulnerable to stoppage, while Joshua weathered two knockdowns in the first round of his July bout against Kristian Prenga before securing a second-round stoppage.
‘Iron’ Mike remains firmly in Fury’s corner for theDecember 11 showdown.
During an interview with DJ WHOO KID, Tyson revealed his desire to see Joshua step into the ring with former WBC champion Deontay Wilder next.
“Tyson’s always been known to handle pressure well, but it’s going to be interesting to watch this fight. I know Joshua’s going to be throwing faster punches, but his punches can’t be faster than Deontay Wilder’s.”
“I wanna see him [Joshua] fight Deontay.”
While a potential Wilder vs. Joshua matchup could materialize down the line, the immediate focus for both competitors remains settling their long-standing rivalry with Fury first.
