Children and Four Lives Lost: Civilians Injured in West Bank Settler Offensive
Several Palestinians have been injured by Israeli settlers, and farmers have been arrested by Israeli forces during violent confrontations across the occupied West Bank.
Four women and a child were among six people hurt on Saturday when settlers attacked residents in Ma’in village, situated in the Masafer Yatta area south of Hebron, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
In Deir Ammar, west of Ramallah, Israeli troops opened fire on olive‑pickers, forcing them to abandon their fields, as reported by the Palestinian news agency Wafa.
Further clashes erupted in other locales: in Tuqu, southeast of Bethlehem, Israeli soldiers opened fire on a Palestinian civilian vehicle, and in Kafr Malek, northeast of Ramallah, settlers stormed a farm at dawn, killing roughly twenty sheep. Earlier that night, Israeli forces had bombed a neighboring home with tear gas, sparking structural damage.
Insiders described heavy strikes against agricultural work, noting that settlers have grown bolder, openly promoting assault plans on social media.
The subsequent wave of violence follows a religious decree issued by Rabbi Dov Lior, a prominent rabbi linked to National Security Minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir’s Jewish Power party and a key authority within the Hilltop Youth movement—a religious Zionist group dedicated to acquiring Palestinian land in the West Bank.
In his proclamation, Lior asserted that harvesting olives in the Holy Land is wholly permissible and carries additional blessing due to prevailing security risks.
He maintained that Jews may harvest olives even far from established Jewish communities to visibly demonstrate land ownership and fulfill God’s command to conquer that territory, claiming the land belongs to the Jewish people and that Palestinians never purchased or leased it.
Commentators noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu minimizes the scale of these pogroms and lacks decisive measures to interrupt them.
“Political debates abound, yet perpetrators receive impunity; each is identified by name and location, allowing them to operate freely.” Odeh argued that policymakers tacitly endorse this violence precisely because it proves advantageous before electoral commitments loom on October 27.
