Mumbai Indians are searching for a new head coach ahead of the 2027 IPL season following Mahela Jayawardene’s resignation from the role. The franchise and Jayawardene parted ways by mutual agreement, aiming to bring a fresh perspective to the team.
The decision was made during a meeting of the franchise’s senior management in the week of 17 October 2026. Mumbai Indians have reportedly identified several candidates, and interviews are expected to take place that same week, with the appointment likely to be finalised shortly thereafter.
Potential Coaches for MI in IPL 2027
3. Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard is a leading candidate for the head‑coach position at Mumbai Indians. The West Indian all‑rounder was a central figure in the MI squad from 2010 to 2022, playing a pivotal role across more than a decade of IPL cricket.
He transitioned into coaching ahead of the 2023 season and currently serves as the team’s batting coach, making a promotion to head coach a logical next step. Pollard’s extensive experience with the franchise and his existing involvement in the support staff could smooth any leadership transition, as he is already familiar with the MI culture and player dynamics.
