Bangladesh face a significant blow ahead of their ongoing ODI Tri-Nation Series in the United Arab Emirates, with captain Litton Das ruled out of the competition due to injury. The wicketkeeper-batter failed to clear a fitness test prior to the opening fixture against Zimbabwe, prompting a reshuffle in both the squad and leadership structure. With Afghanistan and Zimbabwe also competing in the round-robin event, the absence of their seasoned leader poses added challenges for the Tigers.
Litton Das Ruled Out of UAE Tri-Series Due to Hip Injury
Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayezid Islam Khan confirmed that Litton reported pain in his right hip joint earlier in the week. Subsequent scans revealed underlying complications in the affected region. Despite undergoing rehabilitation and attempting to meet the required performance benchmarks, he fell short during the final assessment. Consequently, the medical panel and team management made the decision to exclude him from the remainder of the series.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) moved swiftly to name Parvez Hossain Emon, a left-handed batsman, as Litton’s replacement in the squad. Meanwhile, ODI vice-captain Towhid Hridoy has been entrusted with the captaincy for the duration of the tournament, marking his debut as skipper in the 50-over format.
“Following Litton’s complaint regarding hip discomfort, we conducted an MRI scan which confirmed structural concerns in his right hip joint. He made a determined effort to pass the fitness evaluation today but was unable to meet the necessary threshold. Therefore, he will miss the rest of the series,” Bayezid stated in an official release from the BCB.
Litton assumed full-time charge of Bangladesh’s ODI side in July, succeeding Mehidy Hasan Miraz. He had been at the helm of the T20I team since May 2025. His current absence compounds earlier setbacks—this marks his second consecutive tournament missed due to fitness-related issues, having also sat out Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe in July. Notably, he returned strongly in the solitary Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, contributing a patient 53 and a vital 102, while also donning the gloves for eight dismissals across the drawn contest.

Towhid Hridoy to Lead Bangladesh in Litton’s Absence
Towhid Hridoy, already serving as vice-captain, will step into the role of captain for the remaining matches of the UAE-based tri-series. This appointment sees him make his first appearance as ODI leader, despite having captained Bangladesh in six previous T20Is. Compounding the team’s struggles, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz missed the opening game against Zimbabwe due to a bout of fever.
In additional personnel developments, fast bowler Nahid Rana continues to recuperate from a side strain and remains sidelined. Bangladesh’s next assignment is against Afghanistan on October 21, with the final match of the tri-series slated for October 23. Under Hridoy’s guidance, the team must navigate these critical encounters without their preferred skipper.
