WASHINGTON — Vice President JD Vance posted on X on Saturday, attributing violence during protests in France to immigration and sharing a video of the Limoges city hall engulfed in flames.
He wrote on X that Western liberals had imported populations from the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion, overlooking essential issues of assimilation and compatibility, despite warnings that such policies could lead to unrest.
He added, “I pray that France, a beautiful country of amazing people, will halt this chaos before more of its landmarks burn.”
Vance, who is considered a potential candidate in the 2028 presidential election, also linked the situation to the upcoming midterm congressional races on November 3, where Republicans are not expected to perform well. “And I hope Americans are paying attention. This is the future congressional Democrats seek for your country,” he said.
Large-scale protests swept across France on Saturday, with police clashing with demonstrators as nationwide marches against rising inflation escalated into street violence, looting, and fires.
At 42, Vance aligns with the Republican Party’s nationalist and identitarian faction and frequently criticizes European immigration policies as overly permissive.
He previously lectured European audiences on the issue during a speech in Munich in February 2025.
