Halloween is just around the corner, and PlayStation Plus subscribers have a seasonal reason to stay indoors: Sony has released two bonus free downloads just in time for the spookiest night of the year.
In addition to the games already added to the PlayStation Plus library for October, PlayStation Plus Premium members can access two extra offerings—playable demos of major 2026 releases: Mortal Shell 2 and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
First released in August, Mortal Shell 2 is an action RPG from Cold Symmetry and serves as a standalone sequel to Mortal Shell. No prior experience with the original 2020 release is required to enjoy this free trial. Featuring a clean, agile, and grounded combat system that blends ranged and melee mechanics, players can possess warrior shells to dethrone false gods and redeem a ravaged world. At Screen Rant, Leo Faierman awarded it an impressive 9/10, titling it “The Joy of Feeling OP In This Satisfying Soulslike Sequel.”
It’s not as obstinate as a mainline soulslike, nor is it as sophisticated, grandiose, or philosophically profound. But it’s a fantastic dark fantasy action-RPG, original and strange, replete with options to soften or sharpen its challenge curve. When my character completely passed through the digestive tract of one of its massive bosses, I thought to myself: yeah, Mortal Shell 2 is something special indeed.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, also launched in August as the third installment in the A Plague Tale series and a prequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence. In this Asobo Studio action-adventure game, players take on the role of Sophia as she journeys to Minotaur’s Island to confront a mythical creature believed to be at the heart of a devastating curse. Featuring far fewer rats than previous installments, Resonance earned a respectable 7/10 from Screen Rant:
With a new protagonist and setting, not to mention an entirely different genre archetype to follow, Resonance successfully differentiates itself from its predecessors in many ways. But it also feels hampered by outdated game design and a story that, while not without its powerful moments, is too frequently haphazard and messy to be considered better than Amicia and Hugo’s. Resonance is a very good, well-crafted game, but it isn’t exceptional enough, either mechanically or narratively, to be called truly great.
Both Mortal Shell 2 and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy are now available as Free Game Trials for PlayStation Plus Premium members. Eligible subscribers can experience up to three hours of gameplay for each of these 2026 releases.
