Galatasaray are plotting a bold bid for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as his future at Old Trafford hangs in the balance ahead of the January transfer window.
Fernandes has found it difficult to replicate the outstanding form he showed last season, and indications suggest his patience with the club’s direction is waning. At 32, his current contract is in its final months, with United retaining an option to extend it by another year, making a move more plausible than it was a year ago.
Galatasaray ready to move for Fernandes
According to Fanatik, Galatasaray are prepared to launch a serious attempt to sign Fernandes.
The Turkish champions see the Portugal international as a marquee signing who could immediately elevate their midfield. Fernandes’ contract runs out next summer, though United hold an extension clause for another 12 months.
While United are not under immediate pressure to sell, the situation becomes more complicated if the player makes his desire to leave explicit. His frustrations with the hierarchy are not entirely new.
Man United still hold leverage

The key question remains whether Fernandes would consider a move to Turkey at this stage of his career.
United continue to value him, as chief executive Omar Berrada has called him a “great leader” and expressed the club’s desire for him to stay, per The Guardian. That praise followed a standout 2025/26 campaign in which Fernandes broke the Premier League assist record with 21 assists and remained United’s primary creative force.
This season has proved far more challenging, but judging his career on a few difficult months would be shortsighted.
Galatasaray could offer Champions League football, a prominent role, and a potentially lucrative contract. Nonetheless, United retain the power to trigger his extension and demand a substantial fee.
Consequently, January may ultimately hinge on Fernandes himself. If he pushes strongly for an exit, United may decide that securing a fee now is preferable to enduring another unhappy season. If not, retaining their captain until at least the summer remains the more logical path.
