Capital One and General Motors are among the companies reporting earnings this week with positive momentum. A total of 70 S&P 500 companies across diverse industries—including technology, consumer goods, and airlines—will report earnings. Analysts have identified several stocks with strong earnings trends. FactSet data were screened for companies meeting specific criteria: consensus EPS estimates higher by at least 35% over the past three and six months; at least 55% of analysts covering the stock have a buy rating; and price targets imply at least 10% upside. Capital One, which reported earnings after a week dominated by major banks, has an EPS estimate up more than 65% in the past three months to $5.50 per share, with 63% of analysts assigning a buy rating. Morgan Stanley analyst Jeffrey Adelson reaffirmed an overweight rating, highlighting expected earnings growth driven by network and expense synergies and improved credit quality under CEO Rich Fairbank. General Motors also appears on the list, with analysts projecting more than 30% upside and EPS estimates rising over 100% in the past three and six months. Wolfe Research analyst Emmanuel Rosner noted that GM has a clear path to sustained earnings growth through 2027, robust free cash flow, and strong capital returns, and anticipates a potential guidance increase for fiscal 2026 as efficiency measures offset inflationary cost pressures. In an investor poll, 52% of respondents expressed a positive outlook on GM, the highest among automakers. GM plans to introduce hybrid models in the U.S. and aims to deploy hands‑free driving technology by 2028.
Analysts have also raised estimates for Abbott Laboratories and Las Vegas Sands. Over 64% of analysts cover Abbott with a buy rating, and its stock has risen about 17% over the past three months despite modest sector performance. Barclays initiated coverage of Abbott at an overweight rating, projecting accelerated revenue growth as nutrition and diagnostics businesses recover and medical device sales continue to expand, with 10%–11% growth expected from 2027 to 2029. Las Vegas Sands, owner of Marina Bay Sands, has seen its earnings estimate surge 360% to 74 cents per share over six months, even as its share price declined in recent months. Long‑term growth in the Asia‑Pacific gaming market, bolstered by events such as the Singapore Grand Prix, may support further upside.
