ISLAMABAD: Pakistan-based telehealth and online training technology provider EduCast announced on Monday that it is partnering with Birzeit University to provide telemedicine services to Palestinian communities affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Middle East.
Israeli forces have attacked and severely damaged health care institutions in Gaza since the military operation in the territory began on Oct. 7, 2023. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 94 percent of Gaza’s health care facilities are fully or partially out of service.
EduCast said the partnership will establish a telemedicine program linking Pakistani specialist doctors with patients, caregivers and community health care facilities in Nablus, Gaza, the West Bank and refugee camps through its eCast digital health platform.
“With the support and cooperation of Birzeit University, this initiative will create a digital connection between Pakistani medical specialists and Palestinian patients, caregivers and participating community health centers,” EduCast said in a press release.
The program is intended to address gaps in access to specialist health care, particularly for patients facing obstacles to medical consultations, specialist referrals, continuity of care and timely second opinions.
Pakistani doctors will provide remote consultations, clinical second opinions and follow-up support through the eCast platform under the initiative.
EduCast said the platform allows health care personnel and patients to consult specialists using smartphones, tablets or computers, reducing the need for lengthy travel to obtain an initial specialist opinion.
Priority areas include maternal health, pediatrics, cardiology, psychology and mental health. The program will also provide remote support for people experiencing psychological distress and trauma-related challenges.
