A tour bus carrying the members of Muna caught fire on the 5 Freeway in Burbank, California, on Monday. KTLA captured footage of the incident, which prompted the closure of several lanes on the busy roadway.
According to the station, the driver reportedly did not realize the bus was on fire when the California Highway Patrol received a call at 8:00 a.m. The bus eventually pulled onto an off-ramp, where members of the Burbank Fire Department extinguished the flames.
Muna shared a photograph from KTLA’s coverage on social media with the caption, “the band MUNA as seen on the news this morning.” The band said that “many personal items were lost but we’re all safe, thank goodness.”
McPherson, who plays guitar and synthesizers and provides vocals for Muna, returned to the road with the band after missing several tour dates in September to care for their mother, Harriet, who was in the terminal stages of cancer. Muna paid tribute to Harriet in an accompanying post, describing her as “one of the greatest, most wise and loving people.”
McPherson is currently touring with Muna on the Gets So Hot Tour, which began on Sept. 25 in Philadelphia. The band was scheduled to perform at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre outside Denver on Oct. 21 before continuing its European tour for another month.
