The Nasdaq 100 Index (NDX) is currently trading around 29,529, marking a pullback of approximately 4.25% from its recent all-time high of ~31,361 recorded earlier in the month. Short-term price action remains under pressure, with the index hovering below both its 50-day (~30,140) and 200-day (~30,154) moving averages. Technical indicators show an RSI near 41.9, reflecting short-term consolidation and selling pressure without yet entering classic oversold territory.
Apple and Meta carry massive weightings within the market-cap-weighted Nasdaq 100; even these minor percentage losses created a structural ceiling on intraday index rallies, offsetting strong gains in companies like Amazon and Datadog.
Bond Yields & Fed Policy: Treasury yields hovering near 5.1%–5.3% continue to keep high-valuation tech stocks under pressure.
AI Capex & Earnings Watch: Earnings season and hyperscaler capital expenditure (cap-ex) guidance remain the critical tests for chipmakers and hardware infrastructure stocks, as market participants assess if AI infrastructure spending is maintaining its multi-quarter pace.
Constellation Energy led the losses among power-generation components. Clean power and nuclear energy plays have seen increased volatility as markets re-evaluate valuation multiples following rapid run-ups tied to AI data center energy demand contracts. Exelon added to the drag on the defensive/utility sleeve of the index, reflecting broader profit-taking across regulated energy providers.
Gilead weighed on the index’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical allocation, as sector-wide rotation away from defensive health names favored growth-focused enterprise software and mega-cap retail/cloud plays.
