Emergency workers struggled to recover victims amid intense fires ignited by the strikes, according to local officials speaking to Reuters.
Medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) confirmed it had received wounded civilians at Ameth Bek Hospital in Abyei town. “So far we have received over 20 patients, including several critical cases,” said Christian Lindauer, MSF’s hospital manager. “Patients with burns were also admitted. We are providing surgical services, wound dressing, and other emergency care.”
In a separate incident on Monday, a drone strike near the airport in Khartoum killed four people, among them three children, AFP reported citing a medical source. A military source stated that air defenses in the capital had intercepted several other drones launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting the airport facility.
Clashes have escalated in Kordofan, a strategic region rich in gold and oil, over the past year following the army’s recapture of Khartoum from the RSF.
