Tesla also expects to enable its Unsupervised Full‑Self‑Driving software on select early customer vehicles by Q2 2027.

Tesla aims to start selling its fully autonomous Cybercab to customers before the year ends. During the third‑quarter earnings call, Lars Moravy, the company’s vice president of engineering, said Tesla is “trying to get Cybercabs to customers by the end of this year, 2026.” The vehicles are already being produced at the Texas Gigafactory, but those units currently serve Tesla’s internal robotaxi fleet. If the initial rollout succeeds, deliveries will begin on a small scale while Tesla gathers data on ownership and fleet management in customer hands. Elon Musk noted that the vast majority of Cybercabs will remain Tesla‑owned and operate under its ride‑hailing service. Tesla first unveiled the wheel‑less Cybercab in 2024 and began offering rides through its Robotaxi app in Austin, Texas, in September of this year. The company is now accepting inquiries from entities interested in building its robotaxi network, indicating that early sales will likely be to fleet operators rather than individual buyers.
Unlike other Tesla models, the Cybercab lacks a steering wheel and brake pedals, making it incapable of human operation. At present, only the supervised version of Tesla’s Full Self‑Driving suite is available to owners, meaning early customer Cybercabs cannot yet join the autonomous ride‑hailing fleet. Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s director of AI, said the company anticipates enabling the unsupervised Full Self‑Driving system on some of the first customer vehicles that become part of the Robotaxi network in the second quarter of 2027.
Regulatory scrutiny followed shortly after Tesla launched Cybercab rides in Austin. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the self‑certification process Tesla used to confirm the vehicles meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The agency is reviewing the data and procedures to verify compliance.
